Linode is working to simplify the way people work in the cloud. We currently host hundreds of thousands of virtual machines spanning thousands of servers and petabytes of data for our customers around the world. We are seeking a Systems Software Engineer to create and maintain integrations between our hardware and the software that makes our products usable.. In this role, you will work on some of our most interesting projects and help us bring new products to market .

Our expectations of this role are for you to be able to understand Linux administration and engineering, have some automation experience in your portfolio, and is someone who is generally curious and strives to learn and develop themselves in a rewarding and engaging environment. Strong conceptual knowledge of the Linux Kernel, virtualization technologies (KVM and QEMU) and Networking are important, and at least some hands on experience with an aptitude to grow are a huge plus.

Must haves:

  • Professional experience in software development and/or systems engineering
  • Thorough understanding of Linux administration
  • Working knowledge of networking troubleshooting and protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP/S and BGP
  • Educated views on technology and software design to bring to the table
  • A love for technology and a genuine curiosity for the things you don’t know

Nice-to-haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Contributions to open source projects as well as your own projects
  • Systems Architecture and Design Skills
  • Knowledge of servers, switches, and various infrastructure management solutions
  • Comfort maintaining live production systems
  • Experience in a hosting environment or other IAAS or SAAS provider
