Linode is looking for a Software Engineer, specializing in Kubernetes, to join the Product Development department. As a member of our team, your primary responsibilities will include maintaining our product infrastructure and improving automation to deliver these services to our customers.

As a Software Engineer in Product Development, you'll have an opportunity to get your hands dirty at all levels of our stack. You’ll help maintain core Internet infrastructure for a cloud computing provider across globally distributed facilities.

You don't have to have experience with all of these, but you should have experience with some of them and an interest to learn others:

  • Bash, Go, and Python
  • Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
  • Relational Databases
  • Linux systems and virtualization


  • Develop and improve the Linode Kubernetes Engine.
  • Design and implement highly distributed systems.
  • Help maintain a fleet of Kubernetes clusters.
  • Research, design, and apply control plane enhancements.
  • Take part in cluster incident response.
  • Help other teams deploy applications on the LKE platform.
  • Actively advocate for infrastructure automation and Kubernetes adoption both inside and outside of the organization.

Minimum qualifications

  • 3+ years of software development experience, with one or more general-purpose programming languages.
  • Experience with cloud services and automation.

Preferred qualifications

  • Software development experience with the Go programming language.
  • Software development experience in Kubernetes.
  • CKA, CKAD, CKS certification, or relevant qualifying experience in managing production Kubernetes clusters.
  • Experience in designing and developing software or infrastructure for distributed systems.
  • Experience in authentication, encryption, certificate management, automation, and operating system security
  • Software development experience using a Kubernetes engine, e.g. (LKE, GKE, EKS, DOK, AKS, or other).
  • Experience debugging Kubernetes workloads.
  • Experience with open source development.
